Fairhaven Residence by DeForest Architects

Fairhaven Residence was designed by by DeForest Architects. The rooms and views in the house reveal themselves in an alternating fashion, like sheltered groves and open vistas during a walk in the woods. The exterior palette included concrete block, stained cedar siding, fiber-cement panels and painted steel.

The entry, living, and dining feature exposed steel and wood structure, and polished concrete floors that flow out to the landscape. A shadow garden at the heart of the house affords glimpses of bamboo, water, and light from nearly every room in the house, while the upper floor is turned slightly to capture even more light and distant views. A central skylight washes a two-story art wall that marks the shift from public to private hallway and sliding panels allow the owners to modulate the connection between public and private spaces.
