Private Residence in Kanada, Beautiful Modern Home Design by Hotson Bakker Architect
Private Residence in Kanada, Beautiful Home designed by Hotson Bakker Architect. The design approach to address old and new was to break the two with a transpar-ent ‘joint’ or ‘knuckle’ – the outcome is the “grand window.” Programmatically, the new staircase became the ideal location for this transition, where the homeowners can glimpse this relationship from the inside as they ascend to the second ?oor. The open space concept is further supported by the glass ?oor, which both shares light and emphasizes contrast between the more traditionally partitioned portion of the existing home. Bright colours and the homeowner’s artwork helped accentuate the materials and lighting.
The 750 square foot addition to the residence is designed to compliment the circa 1920’s home and uniquely meld heritage with contemporary. Located in a beautiful historical Vancouver neighbourhood, this family home is nestled on a corner property amongst century old trees and mature foliage.
