Harlow Town Centre is Designed by Engle, located in Harlow, United Kingdom.
Neil Morris of Engle, the award winning architectural practice behind this and many other town centre regeneration projects currently underway, said: ¨Particular emphasis has been placed on rejuvenating the extensive areas of public realm focused around a new water garden scheme.¨
Engle’s design re-integrates the northern area of the town centre and Market Square quarter with the Harvey Centre and the Water Gardens development to the south. It also includes 420,000 sq ft of residential space and a 60,000 sq ft hotel. Following public consultation during summer 2009, a planning application will be brought forward in 2010. Subject to planning permission the new development is expected to open in phases from late 2013 with completion in 2015.
London architect, Engle, has unveiled to the public the first images of the mixed use scheme, which is set to transform Harlow Town Centre.
The 1.3 million sq ft project, which seeks to regenerate Britain’s first pedestrian precinct, originally masterplanned by Sir Frederick Gibberd in 1947, was selected in 2008 in a heavily contested competition. Engle’s masterplan, including over 500,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space with a new department store and food hall, new leisure quarter including a multiplex cinema, cafe’s and restaurants will be presented at the Public Exhibition, taking place from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th July. The Development Team – a partnership between Harlow Council, the developer, Stockland, and Harlow Renaissance – is asking people to come along to view the proposals and to have their say about the scheme.
