Architecture and Home Design | Greenland Information Center Design by Odile Decq Benoît Cornette Architects and Planners, in Shanghai, China

March 25, 2018 By: Jason Marie Category: Без рубрики

Designed by Odile Decq Benoît Cornette Architects and Planners, located in Shanghai, China.
Its red colour makes it a bright landmark in the centre of the plaza. The large opened petals enable the heart of the building to be visible from outside; a black glass pyramid. Shining in the day, it becomes translucent at night when the interior lighting makes it sparkle from the inside.

The architects have enlarged the nearby pond in order to situate the entire pavilion on top of it, in keeping the perception of the pond for people walking around. From the pavilion, two large entrances guide the visitor to the interior. On the right, large steps take them to the hall, 1.5m above the pond level. These steps provide some places to sit while waiting for the bus. In the hall the visitors can find everything they need on a long desk.

The multifunction room is established at a level of 4.5m; this level is under the water but without being a basement. The visitors travel through the space by long steps and stairs, which connect the entrance level and the multifunction room level in the same volume. These steps can be easily transformed as a theatre to organise different exhibition scenographies. This big room is also directly connected from outside by the long steps down on the left side. It is suitable for some specific deliveries and for special autonomous use.

The VIP enters the pavilion from the left where their hall is located near the offices. From this hall they reach the VIP rooms on the mezzanine by the lift or the stairs. Storage, toilets and services are provided on every level.

The structure is organised by three masts which overpass the highest point of the building and increase its signal effect. The facades are made of shiny red painted aluminium panels.

At the end of the entrance avenue, the information center is unique by its location. Inserted between the two first main exhibition halls, it has to stay different; to mark the point to where the visitors are coming and to signal the furniture exhibition park. Its shape is unique. Looking like an opened flower, it welcomes the visitors.

Architecture and Home Design | mental health facilities

This Wandsworth Acute Unit is designed MAAP Architects, in Springfield University Hospital, London, United Kingdom
Situated in Tooting, South West London, the hospital is the largest of the Trust’s 50 sites, with 33 hectares of land, with a number of protected heritage buildings and preserved trees.

Designed by MAAP Architects, the aim was to create an environment which is conducive to therapeutic treatment and recovery within the constraints of an urban block framework. The challenge for this project was to provide welcoming and attractive buildings filled with natural light and to provide direct access to safe and secure high quality open space. The street pattern defined by the masterplan suggested the new mental health facilities would occupy similarly sized buildings. The existing topography of the site presented opportunities to accommodate car-parking and services underneath and increases the perimeter of the building for other uses including a small café and garden in the south east corner (not yet realised).

The Wandsworth Acute Unit (WAU) is a new mixed gender inpatient facility for adults with acute mental illness at Springfield University Hospital. It comprises an 18 bedded acute ward (AAU) and a 10 bedded psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) together with community team bases and outpatient facilities.

Laneway House was designed by Superkul Inc Architect, located on a 40’x18’ lot, it is built to the property lines on 3 sides, with 2’ to spare on the fourth. Current zoning regulations don’t allow for additional openings in any of the walls, so the design strategy was to draw additional light, air and views from above. A light shaft topped by skylights runs the length of the west wall of the building, broken only by a courtyard on the second floor. The shaft brings light to the ground floor, and provides passive ventilation. On the second floor, a glass and wood wrapped courtyard separates the two bedrooms. From the courtyard, with its primary view to the sky, there is a small stair up to a roof garden. For further detail visit Laneway House Design by Superkul Inc Architect.

Private House, designed by David Chippervield Architect, located in Berlin, Germany. This house, organized around a south facing courtyard overlooking a large rear garden, is situated in a leafy suburb in the sout west of Berlin. Although designed to reveal distinct sequence of rooms and to forge a clear relationship between inside and outside space, it was the building’s material that became the foremost determining element in the architecture. Enveloped entirely in brick, this skin lent the house a physical solidity reminiscent of the early modernist houses of Erich Mendelsohn and Mies vander Rohe. The irregularity of this textured, hand-make brick finish also effect a powerful contrast with the smoothness and regularity of the steel-framed glazing, so that the house really expresses differences in its own materiality.

Baja Residence, Beach House was designed by Nathan Good Architect. Staggered roofs shade the home’s interior from direct sun while facilitating natural light and cross-ventilation. Design features include a partially covered sunroof over the master bedroom that affords outstanding views of the Sea of Cortez, a covered outdoor dining room, and an extensive trellis along the home’s south side. The residence generates 100 percent of its electricity through renewable sources and rainwater is harvested and reused on site.

The space and materials are simple. A main space is a loft-like open area with a living room, dining room and kitchen. Two bedrooms face the quiet back yard. The bathrooms are tucked between the curved stair and the supporting exposed concrete wall.

Description from Architects : Here was an existing Spanish Art Deco house with a pitched tiled roof. It looked very tired indeed. The client liked the location and general internal feel of the house. It was very poorly equipped by modern standards. The developed brief called for a virtual rebuild. The temptation to build anew was rejected as this would have restricted the amount of accommodation we could provide under new-build DA conditions. The main design idea is the provision of a daring semi-circular extension to the East side, the full height of the house. The tiled roof was removed and replaced with a low pitch metal deck. Nautical and Asian elements are incorporated in the form of circular windows and internal moon door opening. Generally openings to the East have been enlarged to take advantage of water views. To the west a new Entry and Day Room take advantage of the front garden and afternoon winter sun.

Designed by Tom Bomford Architects.

Designed by Assembledge+, Ridgewood Residence Located in the Larchmont area of Los Angeles. Description from Architects : This 2400 sq ft house takes full advantage of the Southern California climate with a series of areas that exploit the luxury of indoor/outdoor-living. The glass-cornered living room provides a viewing platform, which makes the experience of the space feel as though the occupant is outside. The full-length front porch is reminiscent of the surrounding neighborhood craftsman homes. The cedar siding, smooth white plaster, and-colored MDO panels provide a material palette to complement the refined forms and crisp geometries. The full height sliding glass wall at the rear yard allows the house to be completely opened up providing little distinction between indoor and outdoor.

Description from Architect:
The Openhouse is embedded into a narrow and sharply sloping property in the Hollywood Hills, a challenging site that led to the creation of a house that is both integrated into the landscape and open to the city below. Retaining walls are configured to extend the first floor living level into the hillside and to create gardens on two levels. The front, side and rear elevations of the house slide open to erase all boundaries between indoors and out, connecting the spaces to gardens on both levels. [ Xten Architecture ]

Glass, in various renditions, is the primary wall enclosure material. There are forty-four sliding glass panels, each seven feet wide by ten feet high and configured to disappear into hidden pockets and allow for uninterrupted views and access to exterior terraces and gardens. There are also fixed glass walls, mirror glass walls and light gray specular glass panels which lend lightness to the interior spaces.
