Architecture and Home Design | Stylish Curved Staircase Design by Atmos studio

March 03, 2017 By: Jason Marie Category: Без рубрики

This is unusual staircase designed by Atmos studio.

Description from atmosstudio: These stairs for a residential project (080 – 23MR) took us in an important new direction, harnessing digital production and fabrication to form a seamless and deeply sculptural experience. This page documents a component that we felt was rich enough in detail to merit further exploration and explanation.
The stair is a continuation and intensification of the simple graphic skirting board lines that trace their way through the house. As they turn the corner into the stair void, they expand like a genie released from a lamp, curling and separating and bifurcating from the wall to form the delicate edge of the stair treads, lifting into the air to rise as the veil of the balustrade. This veil hangs gently from above as a series of thin paired threads, softly pulled back at the entry to allow movement past, gently splaying around the corner to meet and carry the arriving visitor onwards & upwards.

The timber edges of each tread tip curl into and up this balustrade wall, snaking upwards to merge into the handrail before trailing downwards once more, merging as handrail and twisting to blend back into the lowest tread. Each edge of tread then converges to blend back into the muter wall opposite, merging into a diagonal splay of lines that compress back into the skirting trim of the rooms below. The pattern of the parquet flooring subtly rotates across each step to mediate the grain of the floors above and below.

Architecture and Home Design | Design of Beverly Skyline House, House Design by Bercy Chen Studio, in Beverly, United States

March 03, 2017 By: Jason Marie Category: Без рубрики

Beverly Skyline House, House Design by Bercy Chen Studio, located in Beverly, United States.
The project is not a new build. In the spirit of the concept, an old 70s building is recycled along with new additions created from further recycled materials including glass bricks from an old hospital! The project began as a modest remodel, say the architects at Bercy Chen Studio, but turned into a full master-planning for the site.

With the previous building not fulfilling its full potential to take advantage of the spectacular views, the main aim was to reconnect the building with its surroundings and utilise the steep topography. A native garden and creek at the bottom of the property were to be integrated into the design. The glass bricks were used to create the front facade of the house and the originally monolithic nature of the house was further dematerialized through the use of slats installed as rain screens. Pools and reservoirs integrated into the design collect and store rain water and use it as a living water feature which acts to further connect the house with its surroundings and create a spiritual environment. Planting is predominantly native to the central Texas region limiting the necessity for watering.

It’s not a shabby location, situated in lush hills overlooking a valley below, but the Beverly Skyline house in Texas has more to shout about than the view. This small private project has recently been awarded the Green Good Design Award for “The World’s Leading Sustainable Green Design” by The European Center for Architecture and The Chicago Athaneum, a prestigious international award indeed. But what can a luxury apartment in the hills have to offer in terms of sustainability?.
