Architecture and Home Design | natural air circulation

December 25, 2016 By: Jason Marie Category: Без рубрики

Swell house, Single Family House was designed by Studio ST. The roof is sloped west towards the yard so that it can be seen from the yard and to avoid draining where the east bedroom windows are. It then changes direction and slopes towards the east where it connects to the vertical planks both visually and for drainage. On the morphed roof structure (above the existing house) the planks are perpendicular to the ridge so that they can be made of flat pieces. Where possible they are extended vertically and draped over the existing vertical structure, creating a double skin buffer for natural air circulation. The existing vertical structure and foundations remain. Where they continue out of the double skinned area they are clad with the original horizontal clapboard. On the north façade the entrance door is cut out of the planks and on the south façade the planks are twisted horizontally to create louvers that swing open where the kitchen connects to the yard (under the cantilevered volume).

Architecture and Home Design | Parr House Design by Pezo von Ellrichshausen Architects, in Concepcion, Chile

This Parr House is designed by Pezo von Ellrichshausen Architects, located in Concepcion, Chile
There are different kinds of fruit and native trees. The program extends horizontally, besides occupying the depth of these gardens, in order to conquer a sort of interior introspection and invisibility of its external presence.

The irregular structure of rooms contains nine patios open to the sky. If the roominess of some spaces was made possible by elevating the ceilings, this decision couldn’t affect the patios by casting a shade over them. Therefore, two inclinations were established; that of the roofs (that always descends towards the patios) and that of the ceilings, whose vertex sliced by natural light openings is located depending on the furniture of each room.

This is both a huge and a small house. It doesn’t have extended rooms but instead a series of rooms that repeat themselves and some functions that are doubled according to the traditional Chilean country life. The house is located in a small farm where, until not long ago, stood the owner’s old house where his childhood was spent.

Architecture and Home Design | Studio ST

Slice House, located in Atlanta, United States, designed by Studio ST Architect. The house is an extruded box from which slices were cut to reduce the square footage and create an intelligent and beautiful house. Cuts into the basic form reveal its shape and functions. A slice in the front of the house places the carport on an incline and conceals the parked car from the street. A large opposing slice on the south side removes a volume to create a covered sun deck. A number of other slices give form to the entry, dining room, and several windows. The sum of the slices is a set of spaces simple in their design and materials yet spatially intriguing. Each window was carefully placed to maximize the home’s connection to nature and light.

The Slice House is a comfortable family home for a small lot of 25 ft x 100 ft with a footprint of 16 ft x50 ft. The total enclosed heated area is 1400 sq ft. In addition, there is a covered carport wedged directly under the house with a convenient stair to the entry foyer. A covered deck on the south side extends the great room, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor living area.

Architecture and Home Design | Centro Towers, The Skyhome Expression by Hotson Bakker Architect

December 25, 2016 By: Jason Marie Category: Без рубрики

Centro Towers, the Skyhome Expression, designed by Hotson Bakker Architect. Located in Richmond, BC, Kanada. Aiming to reinvigorate the tower form by inventing a new kind of housing, the “skyhome”, Centro takes advantage of the quality of life present in townhouse living. The skyhome expression includes multi-foor space applied to a vertically stacked form and is organized with the lowest (soft) wood edge at the base, an intermediate darker band and a light metal and glass expression at the top. This division creates a dialogue with the tower facade treatment.

Amenity and service spaces are provided on the frst and second foors of the tower. The site also incorporates a parkade with a green roof. The rooftop space includes exercise facilities, garden space, a play area and space for outdoor eating. This level is divided with a dramatic change in grade from south to north. The amenity spaces are grouped in a way that supports the pragmatic, social and spiritual aspects of the site.
