Its red colour makes it a bright landmark in the centre of the plaza. The large opened petals enable the heart of the building to be visible from outside; a black glass pyramid. Shining in the day, it becomes translucent at night when the interior lighting makes it sparkle from the inside.

The architects have enlarged the nearby pond in order to situate the entire pavilion on top of it, in keeping the perception of the pond for people walking around. From the pavilion, two large entrances guide the visitor to the interior. On the right, large steps take them to the hall, 1.5m above the pond level. These steps provide some places to sit while waiting for the bus. In the hall the visitors can find everything they need on a long desk.

The multifunction room is established at a level of 4.5m; this level is under the water but without being a basement. The visitors travel through the space by long steps and stairs, which connect the entrance level and the multifunction room level in the same volume. These steps can be easily transformed as a theatre to organise different exhibition scenographies. This big room is also directly connected from outside by the long steps down on the left side. It is suitable for some specific deliveries and for special autonomous use.

The library is located almost in the center of the campus which will extend in the future. The library designed as the “melting pot of learning” and intended to link adjacent school buildings consists of a low and wide building, and its external form is determined by the concept to leave and utilise existing trees to the most extent, and assure the maximum building area.

Due to its “visible” configuration achieved by the transparent appearance and freely accessible peripheral deck, the library function as the campus hub to “link” adjacent school buildings visually and through circulation lines. With its main function as library and a “choice enabling” configuration which allows interoperation with various rooms inside the library and arbitrary use methods, the library is intended to generate new use methods beyond conventional libraries.

B-99 House Design by DADA and Partners, in Gurgaon, India

July 30, 2009 By: archinhome Category: Architecture, Home Design

Designed by DADA and Partners, located in Gurgaon, India.
The courtyard that forms the center of the house faces south and is overlooked by living and bedroom areas on the ground and first floors. Adjacent to the courtyard is a steel staircase connecting the upper floors. On the ground and first floors, rooms at front and rear are connected by ‘bridge-like’ spaces running along the courtyard. Also running in parallel is a two feet deep wall that at places acts as a shading device for large windows or incorporates built-in timber benches overlooking the open courts.

Courtyards have been an inherent design feature of Indian architecture serving as a climate modifier, a social gathering space and are referred to as ‘Brahmasthana’ (sacred center) of a house. Architects have used this idea and organized the functions around the central courtyard on both floors.

The staircase custom-designed and fabricated out of steel and timber feels as if it is hung in middle of this lofty volume filled with light, facing a full height transparent wall. This glass and steel skin turns horizontal at the top and becomes part of the roof.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center Design by BURO II, in Guangzhou, China

Designed by BURO II, located in Guangzhou, China.
The administration of the booming city of Guangzhou decided to develop a new administrative centre to the north of the downtown area, on the site of the old airport, at the edge of the historical landscape of the Baiyun Mountains. The new congress centre must function as the motor of this new urban process.

The Baiyun highway cuts the mountain park off from the new urban development. The old villages and the new buildings coexist in a chaotic urban conglomerate. Despite the current fragmentation of the site, it does have enormous qualities and potentials. The plot is located there where the historical dialog between the mountain and the city can be renewed within a contemporary society.
